Callmate

Your online consultant and sales rep.

Callmate answers for your business when you can't. It is set up with your services, equipment, service area and the questions you would ask on the phone, replies in your business name, and hands you a qualified enquiry to ring back. Missed-call text-back is where it starts. Set up and run by a real person.

~7×Likelier to qualify, contacted within an hour (US study)
Speed

Reach a lead within the hour and you are far likelier to talk to them

Researchers at Harvard studied 1.25 million sales leads across 42 US companies. Firms that made contact within an hour were nearly seven times as likely to qualify the lead as firms that waited an hour longer.

The study covers US online leads and is over a decade old, but the lesson travels: the first reply matters. Callmate is built around that moment.

+64Skilled-trades shortage index, Q1 2026
Trades labour

Skilled trades are the hardest labour to find

The RICS Australia construction monitor puts skilled-trades labour shortages at +64 and materials costs at a record +86 for Q1 2026, while the overall sentiment index fell to +11.

Short-staffed crews spend more time on the tools and less on the phone. That is where missed calls come from.

Rates

Higher rates make customers shop around

The Reserve Bank lifted the cash rate by 25 basis points to 4.60%, saying inflation is still too high and signalling it may tighten further if needed.

When household budgets tighten, customers tend to compare more quotes. A quick, friendly first reply keeps you in the running.

Rules

Texting customers: three rules to know

The Spam Act expects messages to have permission, to identify who sent them, and to include a working way to opt out. Callmate messages name your business and include a STOP option.

This is a plain-English summary, not legal advice. Check the ACMA guidance for your own situation.

Outlook

Where the work is heading

Coates expects engineering construction to rise about 6.5% to roughly $150 billion across FY26 to FY27, with utilities growing and transport easing after a FY26 peak.

Busy pipelines mean busy tradies. More jobs on the books usually means more calls you cannot answer.

Why the first reply tends to win

People with a leak or a blackout want to know someone has heard them. A quick, human-sounding reply buys you time to finish the job in front of you. It does not win every job, and some callers will always ring the next number.

What a missed call is worth to a one-person trade

It depends on the job. A small repair might be a few hundred dollars. A bathroom, deck or install can be several thousand. Use the calculator above with your own numbers, and treat the answer as a range.

Texting customers, in plain English

Callmate replies are sent in your business name, identify you as the sender and include a STOP option. They respond to someone who has just called you. Your own situation may differ, so check the ACMA guidance or get advice.

The human part

One person. Not a call centre.

I'm Luke. I set up your replies myself, check they're working and go through the numbers with you. I've spent a decade-plus around builders, tradies and quarries.

Is it an app?

No. It's a managed service. You don't have to learn new software.

Does it use my phone number?

You keep your number. Calls you do not answer are forwarded so the text-back can go out in your business name.

What if a customer replies STOP?

They are removed from texts and the opt-out is respected.

What don't you promise?

No set number of leads, jobs or dollars. Callmate helps you respond faster. Results depend on your trade, your area and what you do after the call.

What about refunds?

Refund terms are set out in your written quote. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law always apply.

Missed the call? Not the job.
